Have you seen ARRL’s video? Don’t miss it: ARRL at 100: A Century
of Ham Radio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JerSTUDqI...e=youtu.be.
Congratulations to all involved. Allen Pitts W1AGP created the script
and produced the video and Al Petrunti KA1TCH did the video production.
You’ll hear the enthusiastic voice of QST managing editor Becky
Schoenfeld, W1BXY narrating. You’ll see lots of familiar ARRL staff
included so be sure and check it out. It’s wonderful!

You will also enjoy reading PIO W1AMJ Peter Miller’s very fine
article in Examiner.com
http://www.examiner.com/article/arrl-to-...gala-event.
Remember to keep up with convention news at http://www.arrl2014.org.

Calendars are filling up as spring approaches. Spring will really come
although some of us think this winter will never end. Sunday, March 9
is the date of an important meeting for repeater owners and trustees.
Come to the meeting of the Ct Spectrum Management Association 10:00
a.m. March 9 at the Manchester EOC 321 Olcott Street and hear about the
new on-line database into which repeater owners and trustees will manage
their repeater coordinations. This is a very important meeting because
you will need the information CSMA wants you to have. If you are a
member of a club or group with a repeater on the air, please encourage
the appropriate people to attend this meeting. I’m excited about the
new database because updates will be easier and the info for all
involved will be right at hand. As I’m sure you know that spectrum
is at a premium so it’s important for our coordinating body to always
have current information.

CSMA president Paul N1TUP writes: “Find your way to I-384 in
Manchester - From I-84 or I-291, signs will direct you to I-384.
Take exit 1 (Spencer Street) from I-384 and at the end of the exit turn
east toward Manchester.
Down the hill turn left at the traffic light (gas station on the
corner) - This is Olcott Street – take the first driveway on the left
– sign says “Public Works” – driveway is about ¼ mile long.
On weekends you may park by the front door, enter through the front
door, walk or ride to the second floor. You will see the EOC straight
back.

Dana, KB1AEV, our lead coordinator, will introduce and demonstrate the
online system we will be using, going forward to manage the ham radio
coordination's here in Connecticut. Responses from those who have had
the opportunity to try this system have all been very positive.
Repeater owners/trustees will be using this system to manage their
coordination(s). This is an opportunity to get your questions answered
and test-drive the new system.”

In just a few weeks, you can get out to two flea markets. On Saturday,
March 15 ECARA is holding their annual flea market and VE session in
Dayville at St. Joseph’s Church hall, 350 Hartford Pike (rt. 101),
Dayville 8:00 a.m. to noon. Admission $3. There will be a raffle of a
Yaesu mobile and HT so you won’t want to miss that chance. Come on
out and say hello; the weather hopefully will be just right.

The next day March 16 is the Southington Flea Market at Southington
High School, 720 Pleasant Street 8:00 a.m. to noon sponsored by The
Southington Amateur Radio Association. Doors open at 8 a.m., vendors
arrive at 6:15 a.m. At 11 o’clock, there will be the annual ARES
meeting—come to the meeting and talk public service! Table spaces
$15 before the day of the flea market, $20 on the Sunday the 16th. If
you bring your own table, then space is $10. General admission $5,
children under 12 free. Talk-in 147.345 (PL 77), 145.49 DV, 444.25 DV.

Exams for all license classes will be given, reservations preferred,
walk-ins welcome; e-mail Norm w3iz@arrl.net. See the full flier at
http://www.chetbacon.com/flea2014.pdf.

Emergency Preparedness Manager Mike KI1U will be the guest speaker at
the NARL meeting March 3. He will speak about some details relating to
the club’s participation at the Centennial convention July 17-19.

Mark WA8SME spoke at the most recent meeting of the Candlewood ARA
about his seminars he does for teachers and other related topics.
Mark’s creative work in the Educational Activities Dept. at ARRL has
proven to be really successful. Teachers get to learn about activities
they can do to enhance their classes and expose students to the world of
wireless communications and Amateur radio.

Jon N1BDF will give a presentation on Virtual Radar which was shown in
QST of January 2014 pages 38-42. He will show those who attend what is
needed and how to do it.

The Meriden Club has their web site back on line with new content.
Check out http://www.w1nrg.com.

The ICRC provided communications for the Boy Scouts 42nd annual
Klondike Derby at the J.N. Scout Reservation in Ashford. It was a
2-day event at which experienced and new members worked together. Club
members enjoyed making HF contacts during free time in the evening!

QCWA is looking for members. Have you been licensed for twenty five
years? Then why not join the Nutmeg Chapter of The Quarter Century
Wireless Association. You and your spouse or friend can attend
quarterly meetings, meet new people and enjoy talks of interest to all.
For further information, contact k1mQ@arrl.net. Their next luncheon is
on May 10, at Tommy’s Restaurant Saybrook Rd., Middletown, the day
before Mother’s Day. The speaker will be Aaron Elson, author of
three books on tanker crews during World War II. He writes for the New
Britain Herald and the Newington Town Crier. Barb and I attend often;
the meetings are fun with good conversation, speakers and food! So
mark your calendars for May 10. Thanks Al W1FXQ for continuing to
recruit speakers for programs.
