Unsual Memory Issue With My Yaesu 857D
#11
I think I fixed them all. Too many radios too many numbers! You're right give em names instead of numbers!

No problem Jim ... At least we know it was a radio and not a washing machine. Tongue

In your first post you mention your 877-D then a couple paragraphs later your 757-D. A couple of post later you talk about your 858-D and then your 867-D.

Maybe they should give radios names instead of numbers and they would be easier to remember. Hi-Hi

(I.e. I was having a problem with my Fred last night so I had to switch to my Mary until I resolved the problem.)

The damage was not a bad as I expected. Most of the physical work needs to be done on the control head because the select encoder is loose and needs to be replaced. Also the Main Tuner Encoder needs replacement which I did not expect because it was sticky and I thought that it just needed lubrication.

The problem with the audio could not be found. They had it on the scope and said the transmit audio looks good.

The Microprocessor needs to have the firmware reloaded to it, rather than replaced and that should cure the problem of of the damage done by using the CHIRP software on it.

Total repair only $115.00. I expected at least twice more possible approaching $300.00. I expect it will be about two weeks before I have the radio back.

Nice when the expected cost is higher than the actual!

Still looking for a 6m rig but the 3-500z Tubes come first!

I saw one at the Southington Flea Market but it may have been FM only and maybe crystal controlled for repeaters. There was a guy with a Yaesu like mine but I think he was demoing his go kit rather than selling it. Outside of buying something new from Gene there was not much in semi modern HF radios there, or they were all gone by the time I got there.

Steve WV2LKM always has tubes but I don't know if he has 3-500Z. They are a big ticket item and you can never tell if pulls are soft or what.

I'm just going to buy a pair of Chinese tubes.
Just waiting for an UP week (in terms of OT hours).

At least they carry a 1 year warranty.
