Where do we go from here ???
#1
To all:
From the looks of it we have a few contesters in the ranks.

I just read a few threads regarding the 10 meter contest, and as we are active and "gung-ho" there is still enough disorganization to frustrate the operators.

I believe it is time to take a HARD look at what we can accomplish in the contesting world, within our present situation of that every contest is a Field Day exercise.

We all hope the future will bring us telephone poles, high wires and directive antennas, but that's the future.

It is all well and good to say for example ...let's operate the ARRL DX contests. But can we fully commit the effort needed to accomplish that goal? Putting up antennas in February and March is quite a pain if severe cold weather is upon us.

That's why I feel we need to put together an outline regarding the contest end of the club. Let's get together soon and start some brainstorming.

Just my .02 cents.

Hey Dave,

We are meeting for breakfast again this Saturday at Dad's Restaurant (8AM). Our main goal is to get organized for Kids Day January 4th, but I don't anticipate that to take too much time. You are welcome to join us to discuss contesting.

If not, then might I suggest we make this the subject of the January breakfast meeting? May I suggest January 10th and a change of location to the Wallingford Diner? John K1VDF suggested that it has larger tables.

The breakfast this weekend Dec. 20th will be at Dad's Restaurant at 8AM.

With the present higher-than-normal energy and support for contesting at the "new" MARC, what's wrong with just putting up an all-band wire dipole and with the club's rig & Ameritron AL-811H, we could be a potent signal in any contest! I think an important function of the MARC is to give members who do not have an operational station yet at home the chance to participate in any upcoming 2015 contesting opportunities to gain operating skills and exposure to the benefits of ham radio contesting! One does not need a 3-element yagi at 40 feet to do very well (scoring). I remember with some satisfaction my experiences in the Triple-Play ARRL activity 2009, thanks to the January contests, working almost all 50 states in three modes, all LoTW in the first month of the Triple-Play! This was all due to the presence of ops from all 50 states working the contests for the required contacts. Putting up the yagi will be a plus later in the year, but for now, just to get this club energy activated would be a great boost for 2015.
