MARS - ARS Interoperability SpEv - W1DMM - 04-26-2016
For those of you who might be interested in some exotic QSL cards or perhaps a CERTIFICATE, here is the info for the 2016 Armed Forces Day Crossband Radio Communications Test on 14-15 MAY 2016.
There are quite an assortment of USB stations and a few will go to CW also. Please note that the "tuning" might be a little unusual as the MIL stations will be using USB (Upper Side Band) on the "Low Bands"; e.g., 40, 60 and 75 MTRS. On 60-MTRS, the Ham Stations are allowed to work the MIL stations directly on some of the 5.0 MHZ "interoperability" frequencies.
If you have the digital gear, so you should have no problem copying the SECDEF message from one of the many available stations in one of the many modes (even RTTY) they will use. In the good old days, they sent it is CW and RTTY, but now it is primarily RTTY and many of the nifty digital modes. It will be sent in CW (25-WPM) by NWVC, a Navy Station on LST-325 in Evanville, Indiana. This transmission is late in the test.
They also have an Automatic Link Establishment (ALE) effort this year.

I have always tried to participate in the Armed Forces Crossband Test. It can be a lot of fun. You do have to work split since the MARS stations are an frequencies hams cannot operate. You will get QSL cards in the mail.
