Suffice it to say that most of the work was done on Saturday. Sunday was spent looking for fills and new multipliers. At some points it had seemed that I had worked out the band so I did spend more off time than on time Sunday. Total time off was 29:47 time on was 18:13, boy it sure seemed longer than that! Again 15 meters was packed Sunday. Stations seemed to be no more than 1 kHz apart. How the big guns separate them out I do not know. There were some I could hear the call but just too much QRM to get who they were calling and / or their power. I skipped by them, some I got later some I missed. Lost a few Multipliers because of this. I also listened to D4C work 3 minutes over the contest time as stations kept telling him "it's over" and he kept insisting that there was three minutes left. It will be interesting to look at his score when the results come out. 10 meters opened but not as well as Saturday but still provided a few new ones. 20 meters performed well both days. In checking your log be cautious to make sure the received report has the correct power. Sometime in typing a "K" and your fingers are off you could hit the "L" or "J" key. Another problem could be when entering 400 or 1000 you enter an extra zero. Typos are counted as an incorrect contact, I did find a couple myself. There was one station giving his report as 1500, I had to listen twice to make sure that was what I was hearing. Hope you had some fun. My best effort to date. Worked out 80M again and THAT saved early this morning for me. Many operators on 80M but my internal tuner does not tune up 80 well. Used the Ten-Tec 229A to tune 80M and bang, 80M was open. Basically a SLUG-FEST THIS WEEKEND! Started on 20M Friday then 40M, it was a little frustrating with the Big Guns only taking other Big Guns. Made 24 QSO's before pulling the plug. Saturday I poked around 10M before starting on 15M which was busy. Several hours of clearing Callers up and down the band. I switched back to 10M since the BandMap indicated more Mult's there. Wow was it open and easy. Several more hours of up and down. 20M was uber busy in the afternoon. Cleared that Band several times before switching to 40M where I found little activity until I went into the low side and found Europeans working split all evening until 1AM Sunday. Switched back to 20M & spent a little time looking for VK, heard several and made some of those, then I heard VK2AND (I think it was VK but he was in Australia anyway) on 20M. Then I heard Mike K1MVM make his contact and move on... Had to laugh. Never made that -AND guy either, he was working 6-land and 3-land easily. Switched to 80M though my Internal Tuner is inefficient with my wire. Looked at the Ten-Tec and decided to try it again (third try). After 13:57 minutes (I keep a rate counter with a 'time since last QSO' counter up), I got it to tune properly! Made those Caribbean and S. American guys to keep the points coming! Sunday I started on 10M hoping for a repeat and found many Europeans and S. Americans but making a QSO was difficult for some reason. So much splatter chased me up to 15M where I cleared the band three times. Retried 10M and it was a little better but now like Saturday. Switched to and finished out on 20M at 5PM. Of you guys that operated or listened, what are your observations? |
